Materials for additive manufacturing
The main application of Selective Laser Sintering (SLS) is prototyping and small series production based on polyamide powder (PA), Therefore, prototypes are not comparable with final parts of series production. Additionally, polyamide is more expensive than PP so that SLS is not competitive as it could be especially in comparison to injection molding.
To close this gap, Advanc3dMaterials GmbH has developed a new PP powder which can be processed by Selective Laser Sintering. AdSint® PP flex is characterized by an excellent plasticity, high elongation of 29%, low moisture absorption and durability. It is comparable to standard polypropylene and a very good alternative to PA. With this new SLS material prototypes and small series can be produced directly from PP, so that the installed material matches that of the serial production.
Like a regular polypropylene, AdSint® PP Flex can be used in a wide field of application: automotive, electrical and sport industries, health care and orthopedic products. It allows post processing like thermoforming or sealing. Above all, the recycling rate of 80-100% represents an important cost advantage compared to PA.
